Harrison was established in 1696 by John Harrison, and is a residential community that includes West Harrison and Purchase and many communities in Harrison proper. The tree-lined streets of Purchase are more secluded, with winding roads and woods, and the houses are larger, newer and closer to Westchester County Airport. Purchase also has many gated communities, private country clubs, a post office and a community house with a day camp. West Harrison is closer to White Plains and features many multi- and single-family homes, shops and a community pool. The town of Harrison has many eateries and boutiques, and is convenient to several of Westchester County’s major thruways, including 1-95, I-287, 1-684 and the Hutchinson River Parkway, and to many houses of worship. It is served by Metro North's New Haven line, which runs from Manhattan to Greenwich, Connecticut. It has a very suburban feel.
